When I'm tired and I need to eat NOW...



Ok, you know the deal. It's been a long, long, stressful day at work. You get home, you are starving and the last thing you want to do is cook. Even taking something out of the freezer and warming it up in the oven seems like the impossible. What do you do?

I grab the phone and call Jimmy John's. Their sandwiches are really good and no where near as bad for you as most "fast food". I know it's still not a great choice because of the calories and sodium but this is a once a month or two treat not a weekly thing. Plus they deliver in around 15 minutes.

I checked out their website. The company was established in Illinois so that's good, I'm supporting a local company and they use better quality ingredients than most other sandwich shops. I know I could make my own sandwich just as good or better but the price isn't bad and sometimes you just don't want to be in the kitchen even if it is just to make a sandwich.

What do you eat when you just don't have it in you to cook for yourself but you are starving? And do you try to find as many ways to justify it as I do?

  1. I just kind of graze a little....and if I want a quick fix I will buy a roasted chicken. Not too much choice in the small town I live in...

  2. Yeah we are in a small town too without many options for food. That's why I was pretty glad this place opened. It's fast food but not as bad for you as some.

  3. The first thing I do every day when I get home is make a casadilla. We have another sandwich shop here in town but I do like Jimmy Johns. Now that we are meatless, we're also sandwichless :)

  4. Casadilla's...ummmmm. We're approaching meatless, but still at 2-3 days a week that we eat meat. We'll get there.

    Just last night on Emeril green he had a vegetarian show. He made meatless cuban sandwiches. They looked awesome, even meat loving husband commented on the food. The recipe is on his website. If you can't find it, I already copied it. I can't wait to try them.

  5. Oatmeal. I cut up a banana into the bowl, throw on a third of a cup of rolled oats, 2 thirds of a cup of water, and microwave it for 3 minutes. If I remember, I'll throw a little cinnamon on top. Really yummy.

    I'm afraid for me the lure of the Evil Drive Through From Hell comes not when I'm too tired to cook, but when I'm depressed and want some comfort food. And the place around the corner does the best Polish and Fries I've ever had. The only redeeming value I can come up with is that at least they don't serve it in styrofoam, just a piece of waxed paper, but...well, let's face it, that's fairly weak as rationalizations go.
